The College of Agriculture raised more than $10,000 for Department of Animal Sciences scholarships at Pork and Cork, the first in what will become an annual fall fundraising social hosted by the Auburn University Agricultural Alumni Association.

Held Oct. 23 at the Alabama Farmers Pavilion at Ag Heritage Park, Pork and Cork featured meats from the college’s Lambert-Powell Meats Lab prepared by top area chefs. The more than 200 guests also enjoyed Alabama-brewed beers and wines.

“In addition to raising funds that will help deserving students attend the college, we wanted this event to raise awareness about agriculture and to promote local businesses,” said organizer Amanda Martin, student services and alumni relations coordinator for the college.

Martin credits Barney Wilborn, an animal sciences alumnus and manager of the meats lab, with coordinating with the chefs to perfect the event’s menu.

In fall 2016, the social will return as Birds and Brews and will raise scholarship funds for the Department of Poultry Science. The date will be set as soon as the 2016 Auburn football schedule is solidified. Tickets will be available for purchase on the college’s website in late summer 2016.
